More academies and 'free schools' to open

The latest figures on the number of schools converting to academy status were revealed at an academies conference this week. There is also an update on the number of applications to open 'free schools':
Academies
Pending applications: 189
Received 'Academy Orders' allowing them to move to negotiating contracts: 143
Opened: 57 (up from 32 at the start of the school year).
Free Schools:
Proposals approved to go ahead to business case: 16.
Other applications: 130.
