Labour's new shadow education ministers
08 Oct 2010
Andy Burnham - one of the defeated leadership candidates - is the new Shadow Schools Secretary. As a bright, young and energetic politician he is likely to give Michael Gove a good run for his money. The parliamentary clashes between these two very articulate and ambitious politicians should be lively.
Meanwhile, Ed Miliband has made a wise choice in getting the experienced John Denham to shadow the business and universities department. This will be a high profile job with the controversial changes to university fees lying just ahead (the Browne Review is due out next week and the government's response is expected to follow within days).
Denham, who only just survived as an MP at the last election, had been Universities. Secretary in the last government.
