The Big Bike Ride: the countdown starts here
04 Aug 2009
As it's summer (although you wouldn't think it from the weather down here in Devon), please allow me the occasional blog on non-education matters.
As a break from scripting my Radio 4 series on 'The History of Primary Schools' (to be broadcast in September), I'm going to be cycling from London to Devon.
Three of us are going to do the 170 mile ride between over three days from 14th August.
We're all too old for the Tour de France ... but in our heads we sprint like Mark Cavendish and climb like Lance Armstrong.
We'll be taking as many minor roads as we can as we cycle as parallel as possible to the A303. So look out for us....we may be a bit wobbly, although that may be an advantage as we go through the tank-firing ranges on Salisbury Plain.
So far the rain has hampered my planned training regime. So instead I've just been watching re-runs of the Tour and the Olympics. I think you can become a better cyclist while slumped on the sofa.
More as the countdown continues. For now T - 10 days...and counting.
